The 4 Firsts on My 23rd Birthday

Hi there! What’s up? It’s been a while. I’ve been busy trying to be more productive, earning more, and acquiring new skills, and fortunately, I’m getting some progress. For nearly two months, I’ve made more friends, met some really inspiring people, learned new strategies in teaching ESL, and improved my personality. However, this post isn’t intended to talk about anything that has happened since my last post, except one thing —  my 23rd birthday last month (July 29). On that day, I got to experience some of the things that anyone would love on their birthday.

My birthday wasn’t that special as you may have presumed, though. It was just like other ordinary days, but it was a “happy birthday”. It was, because of the things I experienced for the first time on my birthday, and here they are:

1.First time to receive a cake and to blow a candle. Yes, you heard that right. It was not my first time to have cake on my birthday, actually, but it was to receive one which came with a candle, and a “happy birthday Erma” print bonus. I never experienced them in the past because sadly, no one cared for me too much to give me one. Sad life! haha .. Just kidding! To be honest, the people who care for me just preferred to have more foods in the table than have one small cake. By the way, the cake was from my workmates and I was actually just lucky that we celebrate birthdays at work.

2. First time to celebrate at work. It wasn’t the first time that I experienced being sang a birthday song for on my birthday but to be sang for by my workmates and with some cake and pizza. And it just felt great because although I knew I would be as we do it every time there is a birthday, so it’s a normal thing, it’s just different and special when you’re the celebrant.

3. First time to celebrate with roommates. I came home at 10:30 that night from work and invited my 3 roommates who were there to eat with me at a Mcdo near our place since I didn’t buy pizza as I had initially planned just because I had at work. One roommate of mine went home though, and the 3 who were there were hesitant to go out as it was late night at night, but they approved, anyway, because it was my treat and my birthday. Yeah, every one of us is special. 🙂

4. First time to receive a special gift. It wasn’t my first time to receive gift on my birthday but to receive something that’s wrapped with love, a love that comes from a total stranger who turned into someone who treats me more like a sister, a family. I consider the gift as a special one because it wasn’t just bought and given to me, because a letter was written through it and a talent has been shared.

Below is the first whole body picture I took as 23. It pretty sums up my birthday. However, a few days after, a workmate of mine whom I’m closest to, gave me 2 bags as presents (I’ll post the picture later.), and I had a late birthday dinner with my new friends at my other work. And with all these presents, gatherings, and reasons to celebrate life, I feel and am truly blessed. 🙂
